Liz Disler Organic Fashion

A lot of organic fashion I have seen in the past has been kind of blah. Very plain (often ugly) t-shirts and skirts with very little design and the only selling point being that it’s organic.

Well, that’s not enough to get people to buy and thankfully there are people out there who realise that. If you check out Liz Disler, you’ll see that yes, her clothes are basic, but they’re really cute too.

The Liz Disler range is loungewear and sleepwear which looks very comfy. If you’ve tried any of the outfits, leave a comment with what you thought.

I do hope they extend the range in the future, maybe with some more cute tops or by adding a few more colours.

About Liz Disler:

Liz Disler began her self titled label to make a positive change for the environment. After spending two years researching the harsh impact current clothing industry practices and materials have on the environment, Liz began designing her new basics & loungewear range ‘Forever And A Day’ a locally produced clothing range that is fashionable, eco-friendly and uses the best certified organic yarns.

All garments in the range are made from certified organic cotton yarn, dyed with Oeko Tex Standard 100 processes and sourced from a carbon neutral supplier and produced locally in Melbourne, Australia.

Organic Fabric

Often overlooked in favour of cheaper, synthetic materials, organic fabrics were previously seen as unnecessary or extravagant. As more people get educated in the benefits of the organic lifestyle, organic fabrics have become one of the bigger growing industries. Buying clothing, linens, and other fabric products that are created from natural and certified organic sources can help not only you but the planet as well. By buying organic fabrics, you’re supporting not only the planet’s short and long term health but your own as well.

What’s the Big Deal?

Many synthetic materials aren’t biodegradable, meaning that those heinous 80′s fashions are still sitting in junkyards somewhere. Organic fabrics are not only produced from natural sources, but are often naturally biodegradable, creating less overall stress on the environment both in the short term and the long term. The use of natural dyes on organic fabrics means that harmful chemicals aren’t being leeched into our soil. Additionally, a lot of organic fabrics are processed in ways that are easier on the environment.

Additionally, there’s a lot of statistics to support the organic fabric movement. Organic cotton, for example, is grown without all of the pesticides that normal cotton is exposed to. This might seem like no big deal, but when you realise that cotton is actually the 2nd largest user of agricultural pesticides in the world, it becomes a pretty huge issue, especially when these chemicals are considered to be highly carcinogenic. With 25% of the world’s insecticides and 10% of the world’s pesticides dedicated to cotton, buying organic makes a huge dent.

Support Renewable Resources

Organic fabric is being produced from easily renewable resources, reducing your overall footprint and easing the tax on the environment. With more fun and interesting fabrics being introduced all the time, maybe it’s time to branch out and try something different. Bamboo, for example, is not only renewable, but also machine washable, protects from UV rays, moisture wicking, and antibacterial and anti-fungal.

Organic Fabric

Remember all of those chemicals we mentioned on non-organic fabrics like cotton? Those chemicals linger in the fabric and can be absorbed through the skin into your system. 60% of these chemicals can be absorbed by an adult – for children and babies, the percentage is even higher. What’s more, buying organic encourages safer farming practices, creating safer work environments all around the world. By buying organic fabrics you’re actually helping to protect us all.

Organic Fashion

With the green movement becoming more and more a daily aspect of people’s lives, it’s not surprisingly that the trendy fashion industry has jumped on board. Through the use of eco-friendly processing mixed with classic as well as fun, new materials, going green is the new scheme for plenty of fashion conscious people out there. But why bother to buy the organic t-shirt when it’s twice the price of the exact same standard shirt?

Organic Materials

Lately, resources from all over have been tapped as the newest fabric for organic fashion. Hemp is back in style, as well as the classic silk, the airy bamboo, the still experimental organic cotton, and corn fibers. Even coconut shells have graced the runways in recent years! To focus on just a few is easy: silk is a classic, known for its sleek smooth feel and long respected place in history. It’s great for people with allergies and drapes beautifully even on the most awkward of silhouettes. Of course, you have to dry clean it, so if that’s too much trouble, try bamboo! Lightweight but warm and completely naturally, this quickly renewable resource has become popular in everything from kitchen utensils to flooring. Now fashion has created some to die for fabrics that are perfect for any occasion.

Support Innovation

By buying organic fashion, you are supporting the innovations that make it possible. Fashion can so often be considered disposable – in style one day only to be laughed at the next. Organic fashion decreases this trend, creating a lasting statement that remains even after the trend is over. With the growth of the organic fashion industry, fashion designers are encouraged to think about sustainability and responsibility instead of whatever might be the next big thing. High fashion brands like the Aussie brand Earth Made Me ensure that "all apparel can be eco friendly without sacrificing style or comfort."

Organic Fashion

With its boom in popularity, more and more major world brands are beginning to offer organic lines. Bonds, Target, H&M, and even surprisingly, Nike have all begun to reach out to the organic ideal. You can even design your own organic t-shirt at Cafe Press or buy an eco-friendly iron-on at most major craft and hobby stores. Buying these brands encourages more stores and lines to do the same, ensuring that the green movement continues to spread across the world.

Mulberry Tree Organic

Mulberry Tree Organic is an online boutique selling organic clothing for babies and young children as well as a small number of skin care products.

As an environmentally conscious and socially responsible business, Mulberry Tree Organic believes in stocking only the best organic clothing brands for babies and children, without compromising on colour or style. Each garment or accessory has been lovingly created with kids in mind, so they are practical, colour-filled, stylish and free from harmful chemicals or nasty additives. Not only is organic cotton better for the skin, it is also better for our earth and our farmers.

They stock lots of brands I haven’t seen before so they might be a good place to visit if you are looking for unique items which are eco friendly.

It would be nice if you could search their site by brand but otherwise it seems fairly easy to navigate.

If you have purchased from them before, I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments.

Pure Baby | Baby’s Got Style

This post is supported by the Angry Birds fan site. Angry Birds is an addictive app for smartphones.

Many of the well known baby brands you see around have a small collection of organic cotton baby clothes but there are few which specialise in organic clothes.

Pure Baby

Pure Baby is one such brand. Their baby clothes are made of natural and environmentally friendly materials:

Pure Baby creates clothing made from natural fibers that are stylish but environmentally sensitive. Pure Baby uses organically grown and harvested pure organic cotton (grown without the use of chemicals) and does not use any potentially harmful dyes in any of their organic products. The Pure Baby range is beautiful, natural, soft and gentle on baby’s sensitive skin – you’ll love dressing your baby in Pure Baby!

Some new mothers may be reluctant to purchase organic baby clothes as they may not see the benefits, which is why we think Pure Baby organic clothes would make a great gift.

You can order Pure Baby clothes from Baby’s Got Style and they provide next day delivery for orders placed online.
