Organic Pizza
The best way to get fresh organic pizza is to make your own. Pizza is very easy to make although it does require a little planning and preparation. Even though making your own pizza is not as convenient as calling your local pizza shop and having one delivered, at least you will know exactly what you are getting which means quality organic ingredients (hopefully) which have been produced without the use of pesticides and other chemicals. Plus it will have been lovingly made, by you, which always improves the taste if you ask me.
How to Make Organic Pizza
Ingredients for the Organic Pizza Base
- 4 cups organic flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 sachet dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons organic olive oil
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons dried organic basil
- 2 teaspoons dried organic oregano
Method for the Pizza Base
- Dissolve the yeast in the water with the sugar. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Mix the herbs in with the flour and place on a clean bench top.
- Make a well in the centre and add the salt and olive oil.
- Add the yeast mixture to the flour.
- Knead by hand until the dough is smooth and elastic (around 5 minutes).
- Place the dough ball in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and put it aside in a warm place until it doubles in size (around an hour).
- Punch down the dough and knead lightly.
- Roll out to the size of your pizza tray.
- Makes 2 large pizzas or 4 individual pizzas.
Toppings
Add your toppings of choice and bake in a hot oven (220C) for around 10 minutes.
Too Much Hard Work?
If you really can’t bear to go to the trouble of making your own organic pizza then you can always buy a pre-made pizza base from the Organic Pizza Company which only requires adding your own toppings and heating in the oven for 5 or 6 minutes. That’s quicker than ordering takeaway for sure.
The Organic Pizza Company is a family owned Australian business based in NSW. Their pizza bases are certified organic and they also make a gluten free pizza base.
