101 Ways to Go Green
Green Style has just posted 101 Ways to Green Your Life. Most of these tips are easy to implement so you won’t have to make big changes to your lifestyle to help out the environment. My favourite out the 101 tips are:
- buy organic food
- buy local products
- compost your food scraps
- take your own grocery bag to the supermarket (or to any shop for that matter)
- grow your own food
- recycle
- buy bamboo products
- invest in a front loading washing machine
- wash your clothes at 30 degrees
- use compact fluorescent light bulbs
- make your own cleaning products
- stop using chemical fertilisers in your garden
- plant native flowers and shrubs
- drive a hybrid car
- buy carbon or renewable energy credits
Some tips which I would add:
- opt out of receiving phone books
- use a green dry cleaner
- use natural and organic pest control methods
- promote organic gardening
- propagate your own plants
- send digital cards
- support the Billion Tree Campaign
- use biodegradable nappies
I would think many people are already doing a lot of these things but we can always do more. Using reusable shopping bags, doing your washing at 30 degrees, replace old light bulbs with compact fluorescents, and opting out of receiving phone books are very easy changes which can have a significant positive impact on the environment. Surely we can all make at least those changes. Things I don’t do but plan to are to use a green dry cleaner (as soon as I find one), buy a hybrid car (as soon as they make a stylish one), and buy some carbon credits.
