Organic Cotton Sheets
Organic cotton products such are organic cotton sheets are better than conventional cotton products in so many ways. I think the most important thing is the environmental benefits of growing organic cotton. Growing cotton as a mono crop, rather than with companion plants, results in a reduction of native wildlife in the area as well as significant soil erosion. This leads to increased use of pesticides, as there are no natural pests in the area, and fertilisers to combat the poor soil conditions. The use of these chemicals then produces runoff into nearby rivers and lakes leading to the pollution of those waterways.
Organic cotton sheets are advantageous in that they don’t contain any chemical residues as a result of the farming methods and are dyed using non toxic dyes which do not pose a threat to the environment. This makes them a popular choice for people who suffer from chemical sensitivities and some allergies.
The reason I love organic cotton sheets is because the fabric is so soft. I’m not sure why but the fabric just feels so different when compared to regular sheets. I haven’t had my organic sheets for long but they are supposed to be very long lasting. Only time will tell as far as that goes.
EcoLinen Australia has probably the widest range of organic cotton bed linen such as sheets, quilt covers, and pillow cases. You can buy them online directly from EcoLinen but if you want to feel the fabric first you can find them in a number of well known shops such as Captain Snooze, holySheet, and some Adairs stores. They are also available in New Zealand.
