$230 Million For Solar Power

The Australian federal government has announced it will spend hundreds of millions of dollars on alternative energy development and initiatives to produce cleaner coal based energy. They have allocated $500 million for a low emissions technology fund and $300 million for a coal industry fund.

The package is designed to reduce Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions and will include significant resources to develop solar power including $125 million to build a solar power plant in Victoria. A further $105 million has been allocated for other solar technology packages.

Other plans include a project to burn coal more cleanly than current technology allows. This will see a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The government is expected to implement further environmentally friendly energy packages in the near future. This is a good start but surely more money needs to put into these projects. Solar power is a great option for Australia as is wind power and hopefully these will be developed sooner rather than later.
